State Tournament

OAC State will be held May 3, 2025 at Olentangy Berlin

OAC State Qualification

The top two teams (champion and runner-up) out of each of the six regionals will qualify for state. In addition to those 12 teams, 4 wild card teams will qualify for State based on having the best average of  (2 x Points score on team questions) + Points scored on alphabet round questions over their rounds at Regionals. These 4 wild card teams may come from any Regional and there is no limit how many may be from the same Regional. If there were a tie, the tiebreakers would be as follows: Higher placement if in the same Regional, Higher seeding round score, Higher placement regardless of Regional.

OAC State Format

The 16 teams that qualify for OAC State will have the following statistics calculated for each of their Regional rounds: (2 x Points score on team questions) + Points scored on alphabet round questions. The  average for each team over however many rounds they played will be computed, and teams will be ranked  from 1 to 16 with 1 having the highest average value of that statistic. However, if a Regional runner-up ends up higher than their respective Regional champion, they will be moved to the slot below their Regional champion. This criteria holds as well for the wild card teams (wild card teams must be ranked below any automatic qualifiers from their own region).

Wild card selection is as follows:best statistics of all 3rd place finishers = 1st wildcard, best statistics of 3rd place finishers left = 2nd, best statistics of 3rd place finishers left + 4th place team= 3rd wildcard, best statistics of 3rd place finishers left + 5th place team= 4th wildcard.

Once teams have been seeded 1-16, the OAC State tournament will mirror the OAC Regional tournament, using a double elimination bracket with placement games for a total of 5 guaranteed games.
